Sufficient Grace

Good morning! I hope you’re doing well today. If you’re here, reading this (clearly you are), I want to say thank you for visiting Revival in Christ. I hope you consider subscribing for updates on new content. Several days ago I was thinking about the verse in 2 Corinthians 12:9;

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

A lot of times we try to live the Christian life with our own strength. We make an effort to read the Bible more, to pray more, to listen to worship music more, and to avoid temptation at all costs. We make great strides but then we fall. It’s happened to me before. But little do we realize that we’re not depending on God’s strength but on our own. We’re trying to do all these things to please God but indirectly we’re like a child scrambling to do things to show our dad, “Look dad, am I making you proud?”

But when I reflected on this verse, it hit me. We don’t have to work towards making God proud. Does he want us to please Him and to carry out His will? Of course. But what I’m trying to get at is that our relationship with God isn’t a work-based relationship. God wants you to relax. To rest in Him. We’re scrambling like Martha did while Mary, her sister, sat at Jesus’ feet to hear His word.

But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. – Luke 10:42

Sometimes we worry so much about being impeccable Christians and we forget the basics which is to simply enjoy Christ. In the middle of our efforts God is saying, “Relax. Rest in Me, because my grace is sufficient. If you’re struggling with weaknesses and can’t seem to overcome them God says to glory in those weaknesses because His power is manifested in them.

Let’s make an effort today to get closer to Christ and enjoy Him for who He is and what He’s done for us. Jesus paid the price. Jesus has completed the work. If we stop trying to be Christians by our own strength and simply rejoice in His salvation our lives would be better. When we have an attitude of gratitude we’ll follow God’s will with pleasure. Obedience is easier when we’re in love with God. If you feel like you’re having a hard time with this, then come to Christ today. His arms are wide open to receive you because that’s why He sacrificed Himself; to save you.
