A Day of Reflection – MLK Day

It’s Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Day in the United States. It’s a day of reflection where you can take a moment to reflect on just how far this country has come. It’s crazy to think that there was a time when slavery and segregation were the realities of life. Thankfully that all has changed. Granted, racism still exists, but gone are the days when human beings were enslaved and segregated based on the color of their skin. The times have changed. But, today is a day of reflection where we can look back at history and the impact that Martin Luther King Jr. had on it.

“I have decided to stick to love…Hate is too great a burden to bear.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

My main focus with this post is to share a few powerful quotes from MLK that have resonated with me and influenced me. The above quote touches on the need to respond to situations with love rather than with hate. Hate is a strong word and I rarely ever use. It means you’re exerting your energy and time into someone or something. It’s simply better to respond to situations and people with love. That’s what Christ calls us to do. He calls us to love even our own enemies. This is a difficult task but the Bible says that with God nothing is impossible.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

Once again MLK touches on the importance of sticking with love over hate. As Christians we know that our battle isn’t against flesh and blood but against the devil himself. Life can be a draining experience because of the stress and problems it presents. We’re going to run into tough situations and people that hurt us. It’s tough to remain optimistic under these circumstances, but the Bible calls us to place our faith in Christ. Christ wants to treat others the way we want to be treated. In doing so we drive out darkness with light.

“Faith is taking the first step even when you can’t see the whole staircase.” & “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

I meant to share three quotes but I had to get another one in there. A lot of MLK quotes are impactful and influential. These two go hand in hand in my opinion. Our lives become meaningless without purpose. Without a purpose what’s the meaning of life? Why am I here? Why am I living? There needs to be a purpose for us to wake up every morning and be willing to fight through adversity. When we have purpose we need to have faith. Faith that we are not alone in life. Regardless of how difficult the adversity is and how many problems we run into, we have to remind ourselves that Christ goes before us. We are not alone and we have the assurance that God has already given us the victory on the cross.

God bless you! I hope you enjoyed reading this post. I pray that everything I publish has God’s presence in it. I’m nothing more than a mere human. the Bible says that I came from dust and to dust I shall return. But God is eternal. That’s why my hope is that God uses me for His own divine purposes. God is great and His mercy is everlasting. I hope that you and I can make an impact on our generation and future generations for Christ. I pray that He covers your family and mine with His precious blood and that He fills us with His Holy Spirt. Once again, thanks for reading.
