Don’t Give Into Fear

What a time we’re living in. It used to be that you could turn off the TV and be apathetic about the world while going on about your daily routine. But even if you turn off your TV now, the effects of the Coronavirus are probably evident when you walk out your door. It’s a troubling time, but I want to remind you that we are not alone. God is in control, so don’t give into fear.

As humans it’s likely that you’ve already felt a sense of fear and doubt over the Coronavirus. I know I have. I worry not only about the virus but about my family, our economy, our rights as individuals. Everything seems to be changing so rapidly. But we have to remember that we’re not in this alone. Jesus made a promise to His disciples before ascending to heaven;

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. – Matthew 28:20

Those are Jesus’ words. He told His disciples and us, that He will be with us always. I have to emphasize the always because that’s important to remember. It means that just like God was with us before the Coronavirus pandemic, He is still us with us today. God is a never changing God. He is the same today, always, and forever. He doesn’t operate within the confines of time. He’s eternal, all seeing, all knowing, all powerful, sovereign God.

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. – Revelation 1:8

I know these can be scary times, but don’t give into fear. We can’t allow this temporary affliction to take away our faith. On the contrary, we need to remember who we are in God and began to walk in faith. Faith is believing in what God has said even if your eyes don’t see it. I know we don’t see a lot of hope right now, but we have to remain hopeful because Jesus conquered the cross.

More than 2,000 years ago, Jesus told His disciples that in this world you would have tribulation, but to take courage, He has overcome. Our eyes may not see it, but God wants to remind us on this day that He is still in control. His promises are still current. His love is still overflowing. Come to Jesus and He will give you rest says the Bible. Don’t give into fear, but instead let God embrace you with His arms of lovingkindness.
