Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. – Deuteronomy 31:6

God’s promise over our lives is still active. I once heard a preacher say, “Why does God not change? Because change signifies something or someone becoming better or worse. But God doesn’t change because He remains perfect at all times.” This means God’s promises remain intact. It’s on us to have the faith that this is true and that God will fulfill His promises. “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not.”

When we decide to believe in God we can adopt these opening words. We can be strong and have good courage when we dare to believe in Him. Our eyes can’t see God but we can feel Him. God is like the wind that you simply can’t see or measure, but you know it’s there. You feel it on a hot summer day when a cool breeze brings refreshment to your body. But just like the wind that is defined as, “the perceptible natural movement of the air, especially in the form of a current of air blowing from a particular direction,” you may not always feel God. You might just be standing one day without any winds of refreshment but the air is still there. God is still there.

Faith is what keeps us moving. You can have a state of the art vehicle but without any gas you won’t be able to get it from point A to point B. It’ll remain stationary no matter how beautiful it looks. Faith is like our gasoline. Unless we have faith, we won’t be able to move from point A to point B. We need faith to get ourselves in movement. Faith is the assurance that God is real and that He will fulfill what He has promised.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. – Hebrews 11:1

God isn’t always looking for a tremendous amount of faith. Just a small hint of it and God can do amazing things. I remember when I first started praying. I felt so little and helpless. “How can God help me?” But I realized that simply praying to an unseen person was already a sign of faith. Someone could have seen me and thought I was talking to myself. But our prayer is a sign of faith because we’re talking to a God we can’t see. God delights in us showing signs of faith. Even if it’s small, God sees it like a child taking his first steps in an effort to reach his father’s arms.

“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” God is real. God is a loving Father. Our faith can be strengthened when we remember just how good God is. To this day His promises have either been fulfilled or are working themselves out. We’re alive with a new opportunity. Some of us might be having better days while others might be going through a rough patch. But regardless of our circumstances God has promised to be with us.
