A World in Turmoil

I want to share a brief message with you. I believe we live in critical times. There’s conflict on every level; In our individual lives, in our families, our nation, and in the entire world. All you have to do is type in “today’s news” on your web browser or preferred social media app, and you’ll be able to see that the world is in turmoil. When we see gray skies, dark clouds, and we feel the wind increase in strength, we know that a storm is coming and we quickly seek shelter. In the same manner, today’s news should alert us to the reality that a storm is coming. And just like we run for shelter to avoid a thunderstorm, we must run to Jesus in these critical times.

We know that shelter is a place that provides protection, a cover from bad weather or danger. That’s what Jesus provides. Today I want to encourage you to run for shelter. As much as we would love for the world to get better, the Bible tells us that it’s going to get worse. In describing the times before His second coming, Jesus told His disciples that evil would abound and the love of many would grow cold. We’re seeing heinous crimes occur at a higher frequency. Nations continue to tread a thin line between diplomacy and global conflict, while domestic tensions continue to rise in our home countries.

Hope in the Storm

The Bible says you and me were lost. There was a time when I didn’t know Jesus. I lived separated from Him because I didn’t know any better. And even though I’m grateful for my parents and my upbringing, I didn’t realize that I was in need of a Savior. You see it’s not just the sinful acts that separate us from God. It’s our sinful nature. I had a good upbringing and I’m happy for that. But if I had never heard about Jesus, I never would have known that I needed Him to change my identity. When Jesus changes your identity you can’t be the same person anymore. You can be tempted with sin or fall into it, but you don’t do it without feeling the need to fight it. You don’t accept it as a permanent member of your life. You wrestle against it with God’s help.

Run to Jesus Today

Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. – Hebrews 7:25

Today is the day to run to Jesus. The Gospel is the good news that God sent His Son into the world to save us. You and me were heading towards danger and we didn’t even realize it. But God had mercy on us and sacrificed His only begotten Son Jesus so that He would die on the cross and pay the price for our sins with His blood. Sin has a price and Jesus paid for it with His life. He endured the cross and rose from the dead and now sits at the right hand of the Father interceding for us.

My Pastor shared this reflection one day and it stuck with me. Jesus took our place on the cross to redeem us. You and I had death sentences over our lives but Jesus took our place. When we sin and we come to God for forgiveness, our Redeemer is next to the Father. God hates sin. But when we repent Jesus looks at the Father and raises His hands. The scars on his wrists left behind by the nails that were used to crucify His body on the cross, exposed as a stark reminder that He paid the price for us.

These are critical times. The second coming of Jesus is near. But even if you don’t believe because this warning has been echoed for centuries. I’d like to encourage you to consider that life is short and fleeting. Even if we’re blessed and live a long life, sooner or later this human body will stop functioning. What matters is where will our souls go after we die. Eternity isn’t a year or 1,000 years. It’s not a vacation. It’s an eternity. It’s time that we begin to reflect on eternity. The times are bad and life is short. But God is good and in Him we have life.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. – John 14:6

Revival in Christ is my way of spreading the Gospel. Jesus saved me when I didn't have anything to offer Him. Even now, He still has mercy on me. The most I can do is live for Him and share Him with others.
